Chaitra Navratri Lasts for 14 days at Kamakhya Temple
The most powerful among the 51 Shakti Peeths of Maa Durga in the country is Maa Kamakhya Temple. It has been given the status of Maha Peeth. It is described in Kalika Purana written in the 10th-11th century. It is said that the vagina of Maa Sati fell here. Therefore, there is no idol of Maa in this temple. There is a cave in the temple, on one side of which the shape of vagina is carved on a small rock. Devotees come here to see and worship it. This temple of Guwahati in Assam has been given the status of Mahapeeth, worship is still being done according to the rules made 600 years ago.
This temple built on the Nilachal hills in Guwahati, the capital of Assam, to see this. It is 1:30 in the afternoon and there is a good crowd here compared to normal days. T
Chaitra Navratri starts 5 days before the scheduled date in this temple. Actually, there is no idol of Maa Durga or Jangdamba here. Therefore, in Navratri, the Kalash is installed by placing Maa Durga’s seat just outside the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. Worship starts five days in advance on this seat. During these nine days, the worship of the mother starts at 4 am. The eight members of the Pariya family do the makeup of the mother. Then a member of the clan of the main priest of the temple does the Aarti. Then a sacrifice is offered. Every day the doors of the temple are closed according to the Panchang.
According to sources, the rules of worship related to this temple were prepared 600 years ago. Even today, worship is done according to them. There are 460 priests here, but none of them is responsible for their worship.
This is the only famous Shakti Peeth here, where 34 crore gods and goddesses are worshipped.
Worship is done every day. It takes 4 to 8 hours. A part of the vagina of Mata Sati fell on the Nilanchal hill. Hence, the entire universe is from here. Three goddesses reside in the Kamakhya temple and seven outsides. This unique temple is situated between the ten Mahavidyas and five temples of Lord Shiva, Kameshwar, Siddheshwar, Kedareshwar, Amartsoswara, Aghora. Another thing that makes it different from other Peethas is that although there are four Navratris in a year (two main and two secret) in which mass worship takes place across the country, but the secret Navratris of Kamakhya temple are kept completely secret. The priests do not let the devotees realize when these take place. On the seventh day of the month of Ashadh, Kamakhya menstruates, at that time – the doors of the temple remain closed for four days.
