North India Weather Update: Snowfall in Hills, Cold Wave and Fog Grip Plains
Weather conditions across North India weather update have turned harsh as fresh snowfall covered several hill regions of Uttarakhand, while cold wave and dense fog continued to affect the plains.
Snowfall Blankets Uttarakhand Hills
Several high-altitude areas of Uttarakhand witnessed fresh snowfall, marking the first major snow spell of the season. Popular hill stations such as Mussoorie, Auli, Dhanaulti and Chakrata experienced snow, delighting tourists and locals alike. The holy shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri were also covered under thick layers of snow, with some regions reporting up to two feet of snowfall.
In Mussoorie, also known as the “Queen of Hills,” the town was wrapped in clouds with biting cold conditions. Temperatures dropped sharply, and the entire region appeared white and misty, offering scenic winter views.
Rainfall and Cold in Lower Regions
Lower areas including Dehradun and nearby districts received rainfall, further lowering temperatures and intensifying cold conditions. Continuous rain and cloudy skies have resulted in cold day conditions, making daytime temperatures feel much lower than usual.
Dense Fog and Cold Wave in Plains
The northern plains, including parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, continued to experience dense to very dense fog, especially during early morning and late evening hours. Visibility remained low in several places, affecting road, rail and air travel.
Cold wave conditions persist, with chilly mornings and nights causing discomfort for residents.
Weather Alert and Advisory
Weather authorities have issued alerts for:
- Continued snowfall in higher altitudes
- Rain and thunderstorms in lower regions
- Strong winds and reduced visibility
People are advised to avoid unnecessary travel to higher mountain areas and follow safety guidelines due to slippery roads and poor visibility.
What to Expect Next
Cold conditions are expected to continue across North India over the next few days. Hill regions may see more snowfall, while fog and low temperatures are likely to persist in the plains.
