Odisha’s CM Kisan Yojana Boosts Over 51 Lakh Farmers With ₹1,041 Crore Ahead of Nuakhai

As Odisha prepares to celebrate Nuakhai—its cherished harvest festival—the state government has announced a timely support initiative. On August 26, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will release ₹1,041 crore under the Odisha’s CM Kisan Yojana, benefiting over 51 lakh small and marginal farmers across the state. The disbursement through direct bank transfers marks a significant expansion compared to last year, when around 46 lakh farmers received assistance.

Odisha’s CM Kisan Yojana Scheme Built for Inclusion

Crafted to support cultivators not covered under the central PM-Kisan scheme, the CM Kisan Yojana provides ₹4,000 annually per eligible farmer, split into two instalments. The aid covers small, marginal, landless, and even urban farmers who fall outside the outreach of central schemes.

When launched last year, the scheme reached 46 lakh beneficiaries. This year’s expansion to 51 lakh demonstrates the government’s intensified outreach and commitment to financial equity for rural agricultural sectors.

Disbursement Process & Governance

The distribution coincides with a state-level event organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmer Empowerment. During the ceremony, CM Majhi will oversee the official release of funds. The assistance will be credited directly to farmers’ bank accounts, ensuring transparency and speed in delivery.

This rollout is designed not just to deliver financial aid but to also highlight the state’s ongoing commitment to agrarian welfare and inclusive growth.

Synergy with PM-Kisan: Doubling Support for Farmers

Importantly, this year’s initiative complements the central PM-Kisan scheme. Under PM-Kisan, over 34 lakh farmers in Odisha have already received ₹2,000 each, adding up to ₹697 crore as part of the national disbursement that coincided with PM-Kisan Diwas earlier this August. Combined with the state’s supplementary ₹4,000, eligible farmers could receive ₹10,000 annually—a significant enhancement for their livelihood.

Broader Push for Agri-Development

The Odisha government is intensifying its pro-farmer approach on multiple fronts. Alongside cash transfers, schemes like Samruddha Krushak provide input subsidies aimed at crop quality and sustainability. Over the last Kharif and Rabi seasons, the scheme disbursed significant funds to farmers for input assistance. Additionally, the government is promoting diversified farming practices, including livestock and fisheries, to help boost farm incomes. These efforts are part of Odisha’s strategy to not just aid farmers financially, but to empower them to multiply their income through sustainable agriculture.

Looking Ahead

With this disbursement ahead of Nuakhai, Odisha sends a clear message of solidarity and support to its agrarian community. By layering state-level interventions over central schemes, the government continues to pave a robust pathway toward enhanced farmer welfare and resilience.
