Toyota Fortuner Legender Mild Hybrid Launched in India: Price, Features, and What’s New

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the much-anticipated Fortuner Legender Mild Hybrid in India, marking a significant step towards greener mobility in the premium SUV segment. The mild-hybrid version is now available with a 48V hybrid system, blending Toyota’s legendary performance with improved efficiency and lower emissions.

What’s New in the 2025 Fortuner Mild Hybrid?

The 2025 Toyota Fortuner Legender now comes equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system integrated into its 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine. This is the same engine found in the standard Fortuner, but with the addition of an electric motor-generator unit, a lithium-ion battery, and a 48V power supply module.

Key Mechanical Highlights:

  • Engine: 2.8-litre diesel engine with mild-hybrid tech
  • Hybrid Tech: 48V battery and Integrated Starter Generator (ISG)
  • Power Output: 201 bhp, 500 Nm torque (same as standard)
  • Transmission: 6-speed automatic gearbox
  • Drive Type: Available in both 4×2 and 4×4 variants

The hybrid system assists during acceleration, idling, and gear changes, improving fuel efficiency and ensuring a smoother drive experience. It also features regenerative braking, which helps recharge the hybrid battery.

Price and Variants

The Fortuner Legender Mild Hybrid is priced from ₹43.66 lakh for the 4×2 variant, and ₹47.64 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 4×4 version. This places the hybrid version at a premium of around ₹50,000–₹1 lakh over its non-hybrid diesel counterpart.

Variant-wise Pricing (Ex-showroom, Delhi):

  • Fortuner Legender 4×2 Mild Hybrid: ₹43.66 lakh
  • Fortuner Legender 4×4 Mild Hybrid: ₹47.64 lakh

Design and Features

There are no major design changes in the hybrid version. It retains the bold, stylish exterior of the Legender trim with its dual-tone roof, sleek LED DRLs, premium alloy wheels, and aggressive bumpers.

Interior & Tech Features:

  • 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
  • Premium leatherette upholstery
  • Ventilated seats (front)
  • 11-speaker JBL sound system (on top variant)
  • Connected car technology (Toyota i-Connect)
  • 7 airbags, traction control, and 360-degree camera (4×4 variant)

Why Mild Hybrid?

Toyota is using mild-hybrid tech as a transitional bridge between traditional combustion engines and full hybrid/electric vehicles. The Fortuner’s 48V system offers:

  • Better fuel efficiency (estimated 5–10% improvement)
  • Lower CO₂ emissions
  • Reduced engine load during start-stop traffic
  • Improved engine refinement and idle-stop function

This launch aligns with Toyota’s broader strategy to gradually electrify its entire Indian portfolio without compromising on power or off-road capabilities.
