Yamaha XSR155 Launched in India: Retro Style Meets Modern Tech

Yamaha has officially launched the XSR155 in India, priced at around ₹1.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The motorcycle brings a unique blend of retro styling and modern performance, marking Yamaha’s entry into India’s neo-retro segment.

Design and Styling

The Yamaha XSR155 carries a classic vintage look with a round LED headlamp, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and a single-piece seat. Despite its old-school design, it features modern touches like a fully digital instrument console, LED lighting, and premium paint options. The bike is available in four colour variants — Metallic Grey, Vivid Red, Greyish Green Metallic, and Metallic Blue.

Engine and Performance

The XSR155 is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. It produces 18.1 bhp and 14.2 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox and an assist and slipper clutch. The bike delivers smooth performance both in city rides and highway cruising, with responsive throttle control and refined power delivery.

Features and Hardware

Built on Yamaha’s Deltabox frame, the XSR155 borrows its mechanical foundation from the popular R15 and MT-15. It comes equipped with upside-down front forks, a monoshock rear suspension, dual-channel ABS, traction control, and a lightweight aluminium swingarm. The kerb weight stands at 137 kg, while the seat height is around 810 mm. The fuel tank capacity is 10 litres, making it a balanced option for city and short touring rides.

Customization Options

Yamaha has introduced official accessory kits for the XSR155, including Scrambler and Café Racer packages, allowing riders to personalize the bike’s look and ergonomics. These kits include changes in seats, handlebars, exhausts, and styling elements — appealing to riders who love a touch of individuality.

Performance and Ride Experience

The motorcycle offers excellent ride comfort, handling, and agility, making it suitable for both daily commutes and weekend rides. The USD forks enhance stability, while the assist and slipper clutch ensures smoother gear shifts. Its compact size and lightweight design make it ideal for navigating urban traffic with ease.

Limitations

While the bike offers premium features, its 10-litre fuel tank may feel small for long-distance touring. Additionally, at this price, buyers might also consider more powerful bikes like the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 or the Bajaj Pulsar N250. However, for those seeking a stylish, lightweight, and performance-oriented 150cc motorcycle, the XSR155 delivers great value.

Who Should Buy It

The Yamaha XSR155 is perfect for riders who:

  • Appreciate retro styling with modern performance.
  • Want a daily commuter with weekend touring potential.
  • Prefer a lightweight yet premium motorcycle with advanced features.

Verdict

The Yamaha XSR155 is a refreshing addition to India’s 150cc segment, combining performance, technology, and timeless design. With its powerful engine, advanced features, and distinctive look, it’s a strong contender for riders who want a motorcycle that’s both stylish and practical.

It’s a true example of “old charm meets new technology.”
