PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Update 2026: 1.07 Lakh Ineligible Beneficiaries Face Recovery, ₹10,000 Proposal Explained
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme is in focus after authorities in Uttar Pradesh moved to recover funds from more than 1.07 lakh beneficiaries identified as ineligible in Pratapgarh. At the same time, farmer organisations in the state have been demanding an increase in annual financial support, while reports of raising the PM-KISAN amount from ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 have also sparked discussion among farmers.
However, there has been no official announcement increasing the PM-KISAN annual assistance to ₹10,000. The scheme currently provides eligible farmer families with ₹6,000 per year in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each.
1.07 Lakh PM-KISAN Beneficiaries Identified as Ineligible in Pratapgarh
In Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, the government has stopped PM-KISAN payments to 1,07,364 people identified as having received benefits despite being ineligible.
According to Jagran, authorities are preparing to recover the money that was allegedly received incorrectly under the scheme. The beneficiaries identified in the investigation include people from Pratapgarh as well as other districts such as Prayagraj, Sultanpur, Amethi and Rae Bareli. Some beneficiaries were also reportedly linked to Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana.
The action follows an investigation into irregularities in the beneficiary database. Earlier reports had also indicated that a much larger list of potentially ineligible beneficiaries had been identified during the investigation.
Beneficiaries Can Voluntarily Return the Money
The agriculture department has reportedly given identified ineligible beneficiaries an opportunity to voluntarily surrender their PM-KISAN benefits and return the money received.
According to the department, beneficiaries can use the “Voluntary Surrender of PM-KISAN Benefits” option available on the official PM-KISAN portal. The amount received incorrectly can then be returned through the online refund process.
Officials have said that those who do not return the money after being found ineligible during verification could face recovery proceedings.
Verification Drive to Begin From October 2
A saturation campaign is scheduled to begin in Pratapgarh from October 2.
During the campaign, officials will verify farmers’ records, eligibility and other details connected with the scheme. The objective is to identify eligible beneficiaries and remove ineligible names from the beneficiary database.
The PM-KISAN portal itself also currently carries a notice about suspected cases that may fall under exclusion criteria. These include certain land ownership situations and cases where multiple members of the same family are receiving benefits. The government says such payments may be temporarily withheld until physical verification is completed.
What Is the PM-KISAN Amount Currently?
As of September 2026, eligible farmer families continue to receive ₹6,000 per year under PM-KISAN.
The amount is transferred in three instalments:
- ₹2,000 – first instalment
- ₹2,000 – second instalment
- ₹2,000 – third instalment
The money is transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts under the scheme’s direct benefit transfer system.
The official PM-KISAN portal confirms that the annual assistance remains ₹6,000.
Will PM-KISAN Increase to ₹10,000?
A proposal to increase the annual assistance from ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 has recently generated attention.
Amar Ujala reported that Dr Krishna Veer Chaudhary, national president of the Bharatiya Krishak Samaj and a member of the government’s High Power Purchase Committee, had indicated that increasing the assistance to ₹10,000 was being considered in the context of improving farmers’ incomes.
However, the report also makes an important clarification: there has been no official announcement approving the ₹10,000 annual payment.
Therefore, farmers should not consider ₹10,000 as the current PM-KISAN entitlement until a formal government notification is issued.
Farmers’ Organisations Also Demand Higher Assistance
The discussion around increasing PM-KISAN support comes as farmer organisations in Uttar Pradesh have raised demands related to financial assistance, fertiliser availability, electricity and irrigation.
In Sambhal’s Bahjoi, the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh held a demonstration on September 23 and submitted a memorandum covering several farmer-related issues. The demands reportedly included better availability of fertilisers, electricity and irrigation facilities, along with higher financial support under Kisan Samman Nidhi.
Recent demonstrations by the organisation in other Uttar Pradesh districts have similarly included demands to increase annual farmer assistance to ₹12,000, provide adequate DAP and urea, simplify electricity connections for private tubewells and address other agricultural concerns. These are demands raised by farmer organisations and do not represent a change already approved under PM-KISAN.
PM-KISAN Scheme Approved Through 2031
The central government has approved the continuation of the PM-KISAN scheme for the period from 2026-27 to 2030-31, with a reported total financial provision of ₹3.15 lakh crore.
The continuation does not, however, mean that the annual benefit has automatically increased to ₹10,000. The current official PM-KISAN information continues to state an annual benefit of ₹6,000.
Farmers Should Check Their PM-KISAN Status
With verification drives and scrutiny of beneficiary records increasing, farmers can check their details through the official PM-KISAN portal.
The government specifically advises farmers with suspected or incomplete records to check their eligibility and status. e-KYC is mandatory for registered PM-KISAN farmers.
Farmers should particularly verify:
- Whether their name appears in the beneficiary list
- Whether their land records are correctly updated
- Whether e-KYC has been completed
- Whether their Aadhaar and bank details are correctly linked
- Whether any payment has been withheld because of a verification issue
What Farmers Should Know Right Now
For now, three separate developments should not be confused with one another.
First, Pratapgarh authorities have stopped payments and initiated recovery-related action against 1,07,364 identified ineligible beneficiaries.
Second, farmer organisations in Uttar Pradesh are demanding higher financial assistance along with better access to fertiliser, electricity and irrigation.
Third, the proposed increase from ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 per year has not been officially approved. The current PM-KISAN entitlement remains ₹6,000 annually in three instalments.
For farmers, the immediate priority is therefore to keep their PM-KISAN records, e-KYC and land details updated and rely on official notifications for any change in the payment amount.
