Pyaar Prema Kalyanam Review: Elan and Saanve Megghana’s Rom-Com Gives Marriage Traditions a Modern Twist
Pyaar Prema Kalyanam, the new Tamil romantic comedy starring Elan and Saanve Megghana, premiered directly on Netflix on August 21. Directed by Elan, who also makes his acting debut as the male lead, the film explores love, marriage, family expectations and the changing roles of couples through an unconventional setup.
The film centres on Pavi, a popular social media influencer who does not want to leave her family home after marriage. Instead, her husband moves into her parents’ house, turning the traditional idea of a married couple’s living arrangement on its head. Comedy Works Best in the First Half

The second half is comparatively less consistent, with the narrative losing some of the freshness that makes the initial setup engaging. Some supporting characters could also have been given more to do.
Scroll’s review similarly views the film as a “halfway modern” challenge to traditional family values, suggesting that while it questions established ideas, it does not completely break away from them.
Yuvan Shankar Raja Adds to the Film
Music is another familiar element in the film, with Yuvan Shankar Raja composing the soundtrack.
Yuvan has previously collaborated with Elan on Pyaar Prema Kaadhal and Star, making this another reunion between the composer and director.
His music fits naturally into the romantic and youthful tone of the film, supporting its lighter moments without overpowering the story.
A Light Watch With a Relevant Idea
At its heart, Pyaar Prema Kalyanam is less interested in delivering a radical statement about marriage and more interested in using a playful situation to examine how families respond when couples refuse to follow the usual rules.
The film’s strongest moments come when its comedy grows naturally from the characters and their unusual living arrangement. Its weaker portions emerge when the story tries to stretch a relatively simple premise into a larger emotional conflict.
