August 2026 Auto Sales: Activa, Chetak and Splendor Lead Their Segments
India’s two-wheeler market recorded strong sales in August 2026, with both conventional and electric models posting notable numbers. The latest sales data shows Honda Activa leading the overall scooter segment, Bajaj Chetak topping the electric scooter chart and Hero Splendor remaining the best-selling motorcycle.
The top 10 scooter models together recorded 7,16,519 units in August, up 19.87% from 5,97,771 units in August 2025. Meanwhile, the top 10 motorcycles recorded 9,27,578 units, compared with 8,81,874 units a year earlier.
Honda Activa Leads the Scooter Market
Honda Activa continued to occupy the top position among India’s best-selling scooters in August 2026.
The Activa recorded 2,55,815 units, up 4.73% year-on-year from 2,44,271 units in August 2025. TVS Jupiter followed with 1,47,450 units, while Suzuki Access secured third place with 69,558 units.

The figures show that petrol-powered models continued to account for most of the top positions, while electric scooters are steadily increasing their presence.
Bajaj Chetak Tops Electric Scooter Sales
The electric scooter segment saw particularly strong growth in August.
Bajaj Chetak led the electric scooter rankings with 52,248 units, compared with 14,014 units in August 2025. That represents a year-on-year increase of 272.83%.
TVS iQube came second with 42,882 units, registering 75.50% growth, while Hero Vida was third with 25,558 units, more than doubling its year-earlier sales.
Ather Rizta occupied fourth place with 22,586 units.

The electric scooter models covered in the August list collectively recorded 1,88,714 units, up 131.04% from 81,681 units in August 2025.
Chetak and iQube Make Up More Than Half of the Listed EV Sales
The August figures highlight the growing competition between major electric scooter makers.
Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube together sold 95,130 units, accounting for more than half of the combined sales in the listed electric scooter category. Chetak alone added more than 38,000 units compared with August 2025.
Hero Vida also recorded a significant increase, with sales rising from 12,273 units in August 2025 to 25,558 units in August 2026.
Hero Splendor Remains India’s Best-Selling Motorcycle
In the motorcycle category, Hero Splendor retained the top spot.
The motorcycle recorded 3,53,842 units in August 2026, compared with 3,11,698 units in August 2025, representing 13.52% growth.
Honda Shine was second with 1,80,626 units, up 10.16% year-on-year.
Bajaj Pulsar ranked third with 97,839 units, although its sales declined 10.55% compared with August 2025.

The combined sales of these 10 motorcycles reached 9,27,578 units, up 5.18% from 8,81,874 units in August 2025.
TVS Apache Records Strong Growth
Among the motorcycles in the top 10, TVS Apache recorded the highest year-on-year growth at 22.39%.
Apache sales increased from 45,038 units in August 2025 to 55,123 units in August 2026. Royal Enfield Classic 350 also recorded a 20.55% increase, reaching 43,428 units.
What the August Sales Data Shows
The August numbers point to two noticeable trends in India’s two-wheeler market.
Traditional commuter motorcycles remain extremely strong, with Splendor and Shine together accounting for more than half of the top 10 motorcycle sales.
At the same time, electric scooters are registering rapid growth. Chetak, iQube, Vida and Rizta all featured prominently in the scooter rankings, with several models recording double- or triple-digit year-on-year increases.
Overall domestic scooter sales reached 8,55,715 units in August 2026, up 23.76% from the previous year, according to the sales data reported by industry sources.
The August sales figures therefore show a market where established petrol models continue to command large volumes, while electric scooters are expanding their share and recording some of the fastest growth rates.
