Tata Aeris: Tigor Facelift to Get New Name, Debut Set for September 25
Tata Motors is preparing to introduce a heavily updated version of its compact sedan, and the facelifted Tata Tigor is expected to arrive with a new name — Tata Aeris. The new sedan is scheduled to make its debut in India on September 25, 2026.
The upcoming Aeris will bring substantial exterior and interior changes while retaining the basic notchback silhouette that has been associated with the Tigor. Tata has already released a teaser ahead of the launch, giving a first look at some of the changes.
Tata Aeris Launch Date
Tata Motors is expected to officially unveil the new Aeris on September 25. The car will effectively replace the current Tigor as Tata’s compact sedan offering, although the company is yet to disclose all specifications, variants and prices.
The new naming strategy is also expected to extend to the electric version, with reports referring to the upcoming model as the Aeris EV.
New Exterior Design
The biggest changes are expected at the front and rear.
The teaser reveals slimmer LED headlamps with a thin DRL strip, along with LED fog lamps. The front bumper has been redesigned, giving the sedan a noticeably different appearance from the outgoing Tigor.
At the rear, the Aeris is expected to feature:
- Redesigned LED tail-lamps
- A revised rear bumper
- New rear reflectors
- Updated boot and tailgate design
- New alloy-wheel design
- A new AERIS wordmark
Despite the styling changes, the sedan is expected to retain the Tigor’s distinctive notchback-style roofline.
A new purple exterior colour has also been shown in reports and teaser material.
Interior Expected to Get a Major Update
Tata has not yet revealed the complete interior, but the Aeris is expected to borrow design and technology elements from the recently updated Tiago.
Reports indicate that the cabin could feature a redesigned dashboard with a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system and a more contemporary layout.
Expected equipment includes:

- Digital/semi-digital instrument cluster
- Automatic climate control
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Wireless phone charging
- 360-degree camera
- Cruise control
- Rear AC vents

Some of these features remain expected rather than officially confirmed, with Tata likely to reveal the final equipment list at the September 25 launch.
Petrol and CNG Engines Likely to Continue
The petrol-powered Aeris is expected to retain the current Tigor’s 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine.
The existing engine produces around 86hp and 113Nm and is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. A CNG version is also expected to continue in the new model.
For the CNG version, reports indicate output of approximately 76hp and 97Nm.
There is currently no indication of a major mechanical overhaul for the petrol and CNG versions, with Tata appearing to focus primarily on styling, cabin technology and equipment.
Tata Aeris EV Could Get a Bigger Battery
The electric version is another important part of the upcoming lineup.
The current Tigor EV uses a 26kWh battery and has a claimed range of up to around 315km. The upcoming Aeris EV could receive a larger battery and an improved driving range, although Tata has not yet confirmed the final battery capacity or range.
Autocar Professional reports that the Aeris EV could potentially use battery options related to the Tiago EV, including 19.2kWh and 24kWh packs, while a battery-as-a-subscription (BaaS) option is also being reported as a possibility.
These details should be treated as expected specifications until Tata officially confirms them.

What About the Price?
The current Tigor is priced from around ₹5.55 lakh to ₹8.84 lakh ex-showroom, according to Autocar Professional. The Tigor EV is currently listed at around ₹12.49 lakh to ₹13.75 lakh ex-showroom.
The Aeris is expected to command revised pricing because of its updated design and additional equipment, but Tata Motors has not yet announced the official prices.
Tata Aeris Launch: What to Expect
The September 25 unveiling should clarify several important details, including the final design, variants, features, powertrain specifications and pricing.
For now, the key change is the transition from Tigor to Aeris, accompanied by a substantially revised exterior and an upgraded cabin. The expected petrol, CNG and electric versions could allow Tata to continue competing in the compact-sedan and entry-level EV segments.
With the launch only days away, more details about the Tata Aeris and Aeris EV are expected to emerge before and during the September 25 debut.
